I discovered a new music site this week called TheSixtyOne. It is a great place for finding new artists and helping them get popular.
The site works by having all users "bump" (it's like voting) a song that they like. As more people bump a song, the song's popularity rises and it becomes more visible on the site. You can surf the site by genre, popularity, and add date. If you want to hear what everyone else thinks is great, you can just listen to the highest bumped (ie most popular). Or you can search for new music that hasn't been discovered and you can become the first one to bump it.
There is also a whole point system involved. If other people bump songs that you bumped, then you get more points. And it costs points for you to bump each song. It is an addictive little system!
The interface is very easy to use and clean. I think they are using Ajax and they did a very good job with it. I highly recommend you check out TheSixtyOne. If you decided to join, say that razswirl referred you (it gives me some points).
