I was strolling through Ikea one day when I stumbled across a blanket I hadn't seen before. It had a very pretty black and white cotton fabric print on one side and fleece on the other. And to make it even better, it was quilted. I knew right then that I had to make one myself -adding my own flair in the process
The fabric was actually a coverlet I picked up at Target a few months back. I just loved the design and colors, and it was on clearance sale. How could I pass it up! The fleece was just normal brown fleece from the craft store. Cotton embroidery was used to tie the quilt. I liked the idea of using a red color that would pop on the fleece side of the blanket. And the "batting" on the inside was actually a cheap comforter I picked up at Ikea. It was warmer and cheaper than buying batting.
Construction was easy. I layered top fabric (right side up), fleece, and comforter. I then sewed around all 4 sides leaving an opening for me to turn inside out. After it was turned inside out, I closed the hole by topstitching the seam. I decided to do this top stitch all the way around to give a nice edging. The last step was the hand tying. The husband actually helped out here and did it all.
Voila! A beautiful blanket, large enough for two to cozy up on the couch under. We gifted it to our friends Chris and James for Christmas.
