A few months back I made a simple ewrap hat for my newest nephew. He grew out of it very quickly and I offered to make a new one. My sister asked if I could do one with earflaps to protect his little ears. That sounded like a great challenge to me. Luckily, I found the perfect pattern in my new book - "Loom Knitting Primer"
Again, Isela Phelps had a beautiful pattern that was easy to execute. I am so happy with the effect. I can't wait to get pictures of little Caden in it (hint, hint Kara). The earflaps and i-cord were created individually. Then you begin knitting the hat with a garter stitch brim (I really liked the effect). After the brim, when you start creating the body of the hat, you slip on the earflaps and they get knit into the interior of the hat. So simple, and yet I would never have thought of it. I did have one problem. Where each row ended and the next began, the stripes did not line up. I'm not sure what caused this. I need to post the question on my loom knitting group on Ravelry. Luckily, you can really only see the problem when looking closely. And that ended up on the back side so it is even less apparent.
Did I mention that I love the color combo Update: My sister sent me a pic of Caden in his hat!
