There are two dogs in the TrashyDiva home. And they enjoy sleeping. When we first got each puppy, we purchased a basic dog bed at one of those large chain stores. But over the weekend, I decided it was time my boys got something a little more unique.
I ended up creating 4 dog beds in all. Two for the family room and two for the bedroom. This way the dogs have a bed in each of the two rooms they spend most of their time in. I have to say that all 4 of the beds cost me nothing! Over the holidays my grandmother gave boxes and boxes of fabric that she no longer wanted. I also got thread, needles, zippers, binding tape, and more. It was a great gift!
In our bedroom/bathroom area we have a blue/brown color scheme. I
decided that I wanted the dog beds to match. Luckily, in the piles of
fabric from my grandmother I found some beautiful ice blue fur. I
paired it with a simple cotton fabric to make a basic pillowcase. I
added a zipper so that the cases can be washed from time to time. Oh,
and the pillows are also items I got from my grandmother.

For our living room, we don't have a defined color scheme. It changes whenever I change out the pillows on the couch. I decided to go for something a little more neutral there. I again used a fur matched with a cotton fabric. This time I used two different color furs to match the dogs' fur. Because I know they notice these small details and appreciate them. The cotton fabric is an old coverlet from a futon. I like the juxtaposition of the fur and fabric.
