Camera CaseI purchased a new camera recently. It's one of the reasons the pictures on this site have improved. ;) Our last camera ended up getting a lot of scratches on the screen because we had no case for it. I wasn't going to let that happen to this new one, so I made a case myself.

I found the pattern at Sew-Mad. I liked that it had some padding, was lined, had a closure flap, and best of all, had a slot for the strap to slide through. I used some scrap pieces of fabric from an old quilting project. The entire project took me about 3 hours. Half of that time was spent creating the pattern. I wanted to be very exact because I had plans to make more of these for friends and family.

Camera case with flap openSewing it was fairly straight forward. The tutorial on Sew-Mad was very easy to follow. The only thing I think should be added is that when you are boxing the corners, you should measure half the width from the trip of the triangle to your seam line. This will result in the side of the case equaling the width of your camera.

At first I was very disappointed with my resulting case. It just didn't look as refined as Sew-Mad's. But after putting it away for awhile and pulling it back out, I feel better about it. It's not perfect, but it is usable and sturdy. It was a learning project. I need to keep attempting projects like this to stretch my sewing skills past the basic square pillow or drape. Though I'm not excited over the results, I am happy. And I definitely don't blame the tutorial. I blame my own skills. But I can work on those.
