A couple of years back, my mother gave me a beautiful piece of fabric that she wanted turned into a table runner. Two years later, I finally finished it.
When I brought the fabric home, I immediately went and purchased some matching thread and ribbon to use as the border. The thread, ribbon and fabric got placed in a bag and put in my cabinet during a cleaning session. As time went on, it slowly moved further and further back until it was forgotten.
Well, not completely forgotten. It came to mind every now and then, but I always got scissor fear. That fear of cutting the fabric because there is no turning back after that. The fabric was a sheer with lots of beading and I didn't know how it would work out in the sewing machine. But when I saw it on the shelf last week, I felt horrible that I had put it off so long. So I just dived in and went to work.
It was difficult sewing on the ribbon with all that beading. I went through about 5 needles. Sometimes I think I should wear protective eye wear while sewing to dodge the breaking needles. Not that they ever fly out - just a fear of mine. But I think the end result turned out nice. I could have done the corners better, but it is a learning process. Everytime I do corners, I learn a little something more. One day I'll be able to do those beautiful, perfect, square corners. Hahaha - I love my goals in life ;)
I'm shipping it off to my mom tomorrow. I hope she likes it!
