In November, I blogged about Fabulous Fabulous's laptop cozy. It looked like such a simple design with beautiful results. I had to try it for myself! So I did and I loved it so much I also made some for Christmas gifts.
There are 2 things I really love about these laptop cozies. First, they are simple to make. It is two layers of felt cut into rectangles that are sewn together. The main cutting and sewing really only takes about 15 minutes. For mine, I cut the rectangles 16.5 x 29 inches. I would then fold the bottom up 9 inches to form the pocket.
The second thing I loved is how much fun you can have designing the embellishments. From the color of the outside and inside felt, to thread color and stitch patter to fabric appliqués and bling. I started out doing simple appliqué circles of coordinating fabrics. I then moved to cutting a whole in the felt and placing the fabric underneath the hole. This gave some depth. Finally, I started adding little trinkets like a skeleton key or old earrings (for that bling effect). The possibilities are endless.
I made 3 and gave 2 away as Christmas gifts. These were a lot of fun to make. Now when I look around I see all types of items that could use a felt cozy like this - the iPod (post coming soon), the camera, the TomTom, portable speakers, etc.
Oh, these also work great as portfolios. You know, carting around stacks of paper and notebooks for work. And it slides into a larger bag easily.
