Hand Tied Quilt PDF Print E-mail

I was strolling through Ikea one day when I stumbled across a blanket I hadn't seen before.  It had a very pretty black and white cotton fabric print on one side and fleece on the other.  And to make it even better, it was quilted.  I knew right then that I had to make one myself -adding my own flair in the process

Construction was easy.  I layered top fabric (right side up), fleece, and comforter.  I then sewed around all 4 sides leaving an opening for me to turn inside out.  After it was turned inside out, I closed the hole by topstitching the seam.  I decided to do this top stitch all the way around to give a nice edging.  The last step was the hand tying.  The husband actually helped out here and did it all.

Voila!  A beautiful blanket, large enough for two to cozy up on the couch under.  We gifted it to our friends Chris and James for Christmas.

I swear I recognize that quilt from somewhere.  Where have I seen it
before? Oh yeah, I'm one of the proud owners!

I absolutely love it.
It is so soft and so warm! I usually use it on the sofa while
watching a movie, but lately when it has been very cold (eg below 30) at
night, I've been throwing it on the bed over the bedspread for extra
warmth!

It makes me happy to know you are enjoying the quilt. I do worry a lot
when I make gifts for people. I always wonder if they will like
the color or pattern. Will they will find it useful or will it end up
in the back of their closet (worse yet, in the Goodwill pile). So I'm
excited to know you love it and are getting a lot of use out of it.
