For awhile now I've been talking about building a wooden valance/box/curtain rod (not sure what to call it) for our bedroom. I've seen it done on many TV shows and they always make it look so simple. Yesterday I finally got the courage to do it.

I have to admit that working with molding is a real bitch in the beginning. Luckily, after doing a few pieces you start to see the pattern and it gets easier. I also learned that wood filler and stain can hide all manner of mistakes in molding!

It took me most of the day to complete the job but I think it was well worth it. Here are two pics.  Click to see larger version.

The next step is to sew the curtains. I've had the material for months; we just never had a way to hang them. So I'll be working on those for the next week or so. Bobby will happy when they are finished. He has been wanting to curtains in the room for a long time so he can have "total darkness". I'll post a pic as soon as they are finished and up.
