A full view of the eyelash scarfMy sister and her family visited during the winter holidays. While they were here, my sister borrowed one of our scarfs while she went on a walk through the neighborhood. Afterward she commented how warm the scarf made her feel. Apparently, she had never felt the need to wear one before and didn't know how great they are. So now that she is a scarf convert, I thought it only appropriate that I make her one.

A closeup of the scarf.By now, I've done a few scarfs on my knitting boards. For this project, I wanted to try something a little different. I found it on one of my many trips to the craft store. They had this beautiful Paton's Cha Cha yarn on sale for $1 a skein. How could I pass that up? Not only does the yarn have the great texture with all those loose strands, but it changes color from chocolate to beige to white to light blue to periwinkle. I'm in love with brown and blue combos lately so I snatched up 5 skeins.

The eyelash yarn is too thin on its own to knit a winter scarf. So I pulled out a skein of light blue Homespun to thicken up the scarf. At first I was afraid the two yarns would clash in color. But I decided to start anyways, since I could always pull out the stitches if I didn't like the result. I was pleasantly surprised to find that you don't even notice the Homespun yarn - it fades into the background. All the little strands in the eyelash yarn and changing color are what catch your eye. I find the end effect very pleasing. And very warm!

You can see the loose strands in the eyelash yarn in this shotI still have quite a bit left of both yarns so I'm thinking of giving fingerless gloves a try. I think they could be a great companion to the scarf. Plus I'd get to try a new project on my looms.

Loom: Pink Knifty Knitter board

Stitch: Figure 8 stitch

Yarn: Less than 1 skein of Lion's Brand Homesun in Williamsburg; 3 skeins of Patons Cha Cha in Hippie
