My husband and I love to make nachos for dinner. For a long time I used the packets of seasoning for making the ground meat. But after awhile, I wanted something that wasn't full of preservatives and sodium, so I created this recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp oil
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1/2 Tbsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 Tbsp salt
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp tomato paste
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup water
Directions
Heat the oil over medium heat in a saute pan. Add the onions and cook about 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook another 30 seconds before adding the ground turkey. While the meat is browning, measure out remaining ingredients (except water) into a small bowl. When ground turkey is browned, add the seasonings and mix in well. Cook for a minute to bring the spices back to life. Add the water and simmer mixture uncovered for 5-10 minutes until water is evaporated.
